Here is the finished project with the Myrtle wood burl that I picked up last month while travelling through southern Oregon. After some fine sanding, I applied orange oil to the wood, then later, three coats of varnish. Clock supplies are from Lee Valley. I was thinking of adding something else to the front, such as a carved wooden flower or such just to fill some of the empty space on the front of the burl, but my onlookers disagreed and said it would look better just displaying the natural wood grains as seen here. This burl clock is now hanging in the living room of our home.. I wanted to hang it in my workshop, but the wife diisagreed, saying it was too beautiful to be in the workshop.
