Here is an easel I made Saturday night, took 2 hours. Made of scrap 1×4’s. and a 1×6 shelf at the bottom for paint supplies while painting. Still need to get a knob for the top piece that clamps the canvas down, to keep it still while painting.
I haven’t painted in 15 years. Making this easel will give me the incentive.

Added: Here is my first painting I wanted to start with, Van Gogh’s Starry Night. 4 hours.

Nice easel. I can see why it inspired you to paint again. Have fun. Show us some of your paintings when they’re finished, custom framed, of course.

Tim, looks great. I just recently took my watercolors out after a few years off, looking forward to starting again. Are you working in oil . Great job on the easel.

I am wanting to try my hand at painting. I suppose that Hobby Lobby would have a good easel to copy. Yours looks really good. Congratulations.

I work in oils. This is my second easel. the first was made of 2×4’s and 1×4’s. And made when i first started woodworking. I wanted to make something fast and easy. Easels are getting cheaper and cheaper at the stores. Mine was free!

Good job! There’s a lot of difficult brush work in that painting. And you pulled it off great.
