This is a kitchen island I built for our kitchen remodeling. We found maple cabinets on liquidation at HomeDepot so we decided to redo our cheaply built dark pine kitchen. The project was realatively inexpensive by kitchen standards. We found an acceptable granite tile for our countertops at $3 a foot instead of the quoted $56 a foot for one piece granite. I built the carcas of the island and framed it with birch plywood. The drawers and faces are from the cabinet kits that we purchased. I fitted two 36 in units back to back in the island to make up the storage.
I found an amazing closeout on 4×8 sheets of tiger (flame) maple veneer from Oakwood Veneer in Michigan. Wish I had bought all of it at about $1 a foot! Anyway, the center of the kitchen now has a productive and useful fixture that was inexpensive and looks very attractive.
