A close family friend was about to become a mother, so I thought I’d try to make something she would like. This is the result. Maple with an oak stain and poly finish. It pivots on ball bearings so that it swings for a long tome. The slide bolt it to lock it in position while putting the baby down. Also keeps younger siblings from trying to “swing” baby too hard.

Very nice project. I agree the finish looks good. Maple can be hard to stain but you did a good job here.
Thanks for sharing.

Walt, that is a great looking cradle…I really like the square rungs on the sides versus the spindle type. I have plans for one just like this I was going to build for my granddaughter when my daughter put the halt to it saying she didn’t have the room for it where she was living (and she wasn’t kidding either). Boo hoo for me, I was broken hearted (as any woodworking freak would…LOL). Oh well, hopefully I’ll get another chance [smile] and I hope it comes out to look as good as this one. Great work.

These are very cool. Well done. I have always wanted to make one, but have no excuse. Field of Dreams theory.

Nice project! I can appreciate the work you put into this piece! Our cradle is resigned to holding stuffed animals at this time but will be recomissioned in about three months with number two on the way. Nice work, Michael
