After the kitchen remodel, the toaster oven was one of those items that was not thought of for replacement. It has been one of those things that we really never used – once every few months. Well, it should have been. On day this spring, my wife needed to make some toast and this was the device for the task. As she was cooking, with her back to the toaster oven, don’t know if it was the heat, or just that feeling that something wasn’t right but she turned around to find the little oven with flames coming out of the cracks and openings of the oven.
When she screamed, I came into the kitchen and saw the device with a large amount of smoke and flames coming out and around the kitchen cabinets, not good. As I picked up the toaster, she unplugged it, still going strong. I took it outside, set it on the deck and hosed it down.
After contacting the manufacturer, they said they would gladly send me a new toaster and send in estimates to repair the kitchen – I made them, they were custom made. I am digressing, we found a new toaster oven that actually turns itself off when the timer is done – at a cost a whole lot more than the $30.00, but cheaper than a new kotchen. One thing my wife decreed, no toast anything was going under the cabinets again.
So, the new toaster oven stand was to be created – a ceramic tile top, the shelf above was to be high enough and fire proof enough so that it would become the problem if a fire were to happen again, this really, really scared the everything out of her.
This is the culmination of her requirements and yes, there is sheet metal under the shelf above.
Thanks for looking.
