This is a toy storage cabinet that I built for a friend of mine. He and his wife looked around and found some prefab cabinets at pottery barn that they liked, but weren’t too impressed with the quality. They asked me to build something similar, yet bigger and better quality.
The unit is designed to break down into six pieces if they ever need or want to move it. I don’t know that they ever will because it is heavy, all 3/4 in. MDF. The middle row is all adjustable shelves. Most of this unit is assembled with glue and pocket screws. You gotta’ love the pocket screws. I used Blum self-closing soft close drawer slides. I have always wanted to try them, and my good friend wanted to pay for them. Man, those things are sweet. Perfect for a “Kid” friendly environment as they won’t slam or smash any little fingers. They worked out great.
I am not a painter and do not proclaim to be a painter, yet I let my friend talk me into painting the unit. His thought process was that it will be better than if he did it so it must be worth it. The unit’s paint job actually turned out nice. A few blemishes but nothing major.
The unit turned out to be super functional for this family and it really helped solve their toy storage needs.

“Beast” indeed! Wow, that’s thing’s a behemoth! Nice work. When their kids grow up, they can rent it out to tourists as a bed and breakfast :).

That looks great. It’s huge! :-) If there are boys in the family, I can see them trying to climb the thing (I hope it is bolted to the wall!)

What a great addition that would make to any kid’s room or family room. Kids keep their rooms cleaner when they have a place for everything :)

That thing is definitely a beast! Very nicely done.

You’re right, that is a beast but a very good-looking one. You did a great job on it the kid must have a hell of lot of toys, or his parents are going to go broke filling it up.
