My first posting… hi all ! Let me say first that I am truly humbled by the great looking projects that I have seen on this website. I aspire to improve my work and to use your examples in my education.
I have made lots of wood craft items for friends, family, and for around the home. Some of my later work has been in trying to perk up some jewelry boxes, especially for my grand-kids. I like to tinker with electronic circuits and so I use some of this experience in making these boxes come to life.
I will post three of my latest with carvings on the lids for three of my granddaughters. One likes horses, one likes dolphins, and the third likes huskies.
I wanted to give the impressions of sparkling jewels when the lid is opened. The kids really get a kick out of it.
The boxes are made of cherry (from a fallen tree in my sister’s yard in Minnesota).
Simple brass hinges, and water-based poly finish.
Inside are LED’s blinking at different rates based upon a circuit consisting of a timer chip and an op-amp, and several other components.. run off of a concealed 9 volt battery.
Nothing fancy yet but I have some new ideas that I am working on.
