This platter is made from local Northland swamp kauri. The platter is about 420 mm (16in) diameter and 60mm (2 1/2 in) high. I wanted to make a flared shape with a wide rim to show off the grain. There is also a bit of bark that I tried to chase out, but it went deeper than expected. I stabilised the bark with super glue before turning so it did not fly out and leave a hole. The shape is unusual, but feels good to hold and really shows the piece of wood off. This is an engagement present for a friend of a friend. I hope they like it.

Thanks, comments welcome
