This birdhouse has hickory sides and back. The front is built from stacked end grain ambrosia maple. I also cut some maple dowels from the same stock and added them to the inside edge of the door. I wanted a detail that would be seen only by the person who cleans it out. The folded metal roof was stripped of paint and hammered for a little texture . Four or five poly coats finished added for protection from the weather.

Very nice, I especially like the front and how you “weaved” to grain.

Yeah, the dowels made me smile. There should be some small reward for cleaning and you have found one. When I give a house as a gift I paste little pictures of the species I’m trying for up on the walls for the young ones to see; and the owners too when they clean. Nicely done.
