This is the fireplace surround I built last fall. It goes with our basement remodel we did that spring.

Many of the moldings are big box purchases but I did make the detail molding that hides the edges of the tile.

Although it looks like this sits at a nice 45 degree angle, it is actually about 42.3 degrees, it made cutting the miters for the moldings as well as fitting the top a little more difficult than I was hoping for.

All said, except for a few mistakes that probably only I will ever notice I am very happy with the outcome.

Those slightly off angles require a lot of attention. The best compliment is that no one notices!

Tell the wife I knew it would be this nice when I first heard about it. LOL It looks great!

There is another thread going about the difference in a carpenter and a woodworker. The carpenter would use 45 deg. cuts anyway. close enough. LOL again. This is a great job. I need to do one of these also.
