Well it’s birthday time for my Granddaughter. She absolutely loves her American Girl Doll. So after seeing CanalBoatJim’s creation. I knew I had to make that bed.
It is made from Cherry with a Cherry stain thinned down to 1/3. I had used a dye for some Cherry tables I made earlier, but did not come out as good as I wanted. The stain worked better.
This was also my first attempt at spraying lacquer. I loved that – 6 coats in two hours!. I have been using a mix of poly, BLO, and Tung Oil and love how that finish comes out also. Now I have two options depending on the project.

George, The bed is lovely. I really like the chamfer on the posts. Your granddaughter is going to love it, mine certainly did.

p.s. I’m flattered, you made my day.

Awesome bed! What is your spray set-up? Any lessons learned you’d be willing to share? I’ve been considering getting set up to spray for some cabinet doors that will soon be coming out of the shop.

Very nice. Now the bunkbeds I made for my daughter really look like I made them out of re-sawn 2x in about a day.
