So I’ve wanted to build a bow saw for a while. My goal was to get it completed this week.
Additional pictures in the blog.
Wood used was Ash for the frame and white oak for the rope tightener.

Nice build. How does it cut?

Nice looking bow saw. My son who builds furniture in NJ uses that saw to cut dove tails. For the life of me I don’t know how he does it. They look pretty good, better than mine and I use a jig.

Wayne. I just did some test cuts, but it cut pretty nice. I need to find a wider and narrower blade now. I hate to cut a “good” band saw blade, but that may be my cheapest and best scenario.

hlpaint, as I was performing my test cuts, I was thinking “I need to try this for dovetails”. We’ll see how that turns out. With a little wider blade, I think it could work.

Is there a vendor around you that sells custom bandsaw blades? I know of one in my area. It would seem like you would be able to get some lengths of blades from them.

Wayne, were I live i’m lucky there is a lumber store. I have to drive 20 miles to get to a Home Depot. We had a store like woodcraft several years ago (again 20 miles away) but it went out of business. It wasn’t because of my lack of help!!
