Walnut hickory birdhouse with a little cherry on top. I layered the walnut over the hickory and deep routed the front and back. The clean out is hidden on the side. The burled walnut panel lifts up and out for easy cleaning. It is held securely in place with a few rare earth magnets. I put rubbed 6+ coats of Spar poly for protection. Thanks for looking.

Deep routing on overlay gives a strong third dimension and colour to this piece. I really like the technique and that’s a very interesting roof detail. It looks looks a church from behind! Great design and execution. What type of bird is the hole sized for?

I’ll second what gene said about liking the deep routing technique. I like the depth and interest it adds, as well as the color combination.
I also like the rare earth magnet idea for the side clean-out; no hinges, sliding panels, etc. equals clean lines.
