We came across a picture of the Wave Hill Chair used at the Wave Hill Gardens in the Bronx. I liked it and had some cedar I wanted to use so I thought I would give it a try. An Internet search reveiled it was based on the Rietveld (Red and Blue) Chair from the 1920’s. A little more searching gave a version I followed but made a few modifications mostly based on the wood I had. It is finished simply with deck stain as the chair will spend its life outdoors. Screws and glue are what holds it all together. I am a little concerned with screws in soft wood but since we are always too busy to actually sit in a chair, it probably won’t see a lot of use. I made a few jigs for assembly so if I make anymore it should go a little faster.

Looks great. I’ve been wanting to make one of these for years. You did a good job.

I have always liked the look of that chair. This one looks great in cedar.
