I had been thinking about one of Britboxmaker’s boxes (white field with black dots next to a black field with white dots) when a client asked me to make her a box for her anniversary. He’s Italian while she’s French. I had this idea, to oppose the two nationalities word for love, and she loved it. I’m posting it here in order to play back Britboxmakers idea to him with a Canadian twist. See where ideas lead you! Like Robert Frost said, “Way leads on to way”. I hope you and he enjoy the box .
I should also mention, for those who are interested, The box is made of Indian rosewood, while the lid is made of padauk and black dyed pear with an ebony and boxwood inlay.

Nicely done.
I’m afraid to guess what they will keep in it.

Nice indeed. Both the idea and the execution.

Very nice indeed.
I have to say that at first glance I thought it was done in Boulle style marquetry, which gives you identical but opposite motifs. Then I realized my mistake. Oops!
Really nice inlay

Very interesting. Splendid job there. Being tri-lingual (English/ French/ Italian – well a bit) have no problem with the language. I even use the French spelling of ‘mitre’ myself.
I particularly like the red/black contrast and the light framing strip. Good box.
Well whats not to like really. I’m enjoying it.
Also thanks for the mention, this has lifted my day.
