I made this out of scraps from a cutting board project. It is made out of Maple and Walnut and will eventually be a gift for my Boss when he leaves the unit coming up. I still need to run by a local awards shop to have the brass nameplate made for the top.
I am in the Army and it is a tradition for leaders to give out coins to people who are doing an excellent job. Most people in the military have a collection of coins. This name display will sit on his desk and he can show off some of his favorite coins. In the picture are a couple of mine to show you what it will eventually look like. I made a few mistakes on this project but I really like the idea. I think I might keep refining it and make a few more of these for other people in the unit. Enjoy!

Very cool idea!! You may want to look into partnering with the local engraving shop. I work with mine and he sends me custom woodwork requests and gets 10% of my project value and inturn I get all my engraved plaques through him and I get 10-20% of engraving. Local woodworker and local engraver helping eachother keep business local.
I do alot of military going away gifts too at the base I work out of, so he knows I get alot of requests that require engraving.

Mike,
Great Idea, although I am set to PCS within the next couple of months. Maybe at my next duty station I will look into something like that. Thanks for the advice.
Have your say...
