Mrs Scott is my 81 year old neighbor lady that lives down the road. This lamp was made by her uncle a VERY long time ago. The switch had broken off and the finish was in bad disrepair.

She asked me to repair the switch and I asked her if it was ok to strip the finish and rework it. I bought a lamp kit at Walmart but I first had to epoxy a long 3/8” diameter threaded rod to mount it on. I also glued a piece of leather to the bottom.

I sanded off the finish but tried to leave as much of the color as I could. I then applied several coats of gloss brushing lacquer. I don’t know what kind of wood this is but she thought it might be Redwood.

Needless to say, she was very surprised and thrilled when I returned it to her.

Nice job Tim! It’s great to be able to bring something “back to life” especially when it was made for someone by hand.

Tim, you did a fine job on this and I bet that she was well pleased.
