This is a simple bowl made from kauri wood which is dated at 50,000 years old and recovered from the peat bogs in New Zealand. The finish is a friction polish from mylands.

How could you have “50,000 year old bowl” in your title and have only 238 views and 1 comment? I’m flabbergasted at that and if I had this piece in my house I would stare at it the live long day. Nice piece, simple shape, and much much more than meets the eye.

I’ve read about kauri wood. Great choice, good work. What are the dimensions of your bowl? If you don’t mind me asking. Also, how much did the wood cost you?

The bowl is about 6 1/2 inches. I own the Woodcraft store in Chattanooga TN so I got a good deal on it but it retails for about $35 – $45.

Great looking bowl, considering it’s age.

I don’t think I’ll look as good when I’m that old!!!

Thanks for the info Rodney. I never would have thought Kauri was so affordable. I may order some from you soon.
