Continuing my quest to learn fundamentals…I tool some 4/4 Cherry and hand re-sawed it in half. Planed the pieces down to 3/8 thick and made boxes from them. The corners are simple miter joints and the bottoms are mitered in as well. I spent quite a bit of effort working on the miter cuts, figuring that a small project like this was a good learning one.

The corks are hot glued in to form a base for drinks to rest on, despite what it looks like drinks rest flat on top. :)

I thought they were boxes of poler chips when I first saw the thumbnail ;-)) Good idea.

I have to admit the idea wasn’t mine…I saw some coasters just like this for purchase and decided to make instead of buy. :)
