I like to do 'em big. This one is a little over 2 1/2 feet tall by 21 inches wide. I decided to make the oval border thicker than shown in my original pattern.
Yes, you do like them big. They have to big though to capture the detail that you put into your patterns. I've now completed two of your designs, and if they were any smaller, with the detail involved, all I'd have been doing is shaving off saw dust.
Great work. I have got to figure out what kind of wood you're using though. I haven't seen any voids in your work. You and I discussed the other night about it maybe being the same kind of luan that I often use. After looking closer though, it can't be. The color isn't right and luan has voids to worry about.
I know I've been told often that baltic birch is void free. I haven't the money or the patience to wait to get that though. So I need to figure out what I can get locally.
Honestly, I have no clue what kind it is. I acquired it from someone else who could no longer scroll. It's light on one side and kind of a laminate dark color on the other.
I don't know if I'm doing this right but this is the finished "Horse Head In Oval"... My brother is standing behind it holding it. I asked him to do this to give an idea of how large it is. I stained the oval and glued on a backer painted black.
