Something different or, how I got my MOJO back...

I’ve got a hairy project (red oak trophy case with a mirror back, glass shelves and mortise/tenon doors…) I’ve been putting off for a while and decided to get the juices flowing by making another box to help get my MOJO back. I have lots of cut-offs from other projects and as usual, kept a few pieces for whatever. My idea was to build it on a pedestal base with a similar top to balance it out. I used a 1/4” round over bit on top, bottom and vertical edges. I used Minwax Puritan Pine and my usual final coat and buff of Johnson’s floor wax. The measurements are, base – 8 1/2” x 4 7/8”, overall height 10 1/2”, lid 7” x 4 7/8”, main case 6 1/8” x 4 7/8” and the interior is 5” x 3 3/4”. The wood was planed down to 9/16”.
It’s not a great piece but my MOJO is back! ;0)
Jack
p.s.
It’ll will be a gift for in-laws that are visiting next month.
p.p.s.
I thought a brass fish knob might be good…

As long as you’re warmed-up, and ready to go, I’d say the piece has done it’s job. Now go knock out that oak trophy case!

Nice way to “warm up”...

Now that you’re warmed up, what are you going to do? :)

Nice. It turned a warm yellow in the photos. Looking forward to seeing the trophy case.

This must be read with an old time announcers voice in your head if it’s going to make any sense at all.
BIG STRETCH and a reach. A few laps around the shop, everyone is warmed up, NOW the match with the oak case is on! It’s touch and go but it looks like Jack is coming out on top. It’s a close one folks don’t blink, it’s down to the mortise chop and cheek cut. (Loud applause) Jack has pulled out the win!
Welcome back to the game. It’s too hot out here to be in a metal shed for too long. I’ll get back to the wood working soon.
Later, BTKS

Hey!

You could cut a hole in the side & enter it in the Bird House contest!!

That should warm things up a tad… !!
