Made this buffet style cabinet for my wife. Added a removable hutch style graduated shelf on top. I thought I was being smart using aspen to build this cabinet. Unfortunately, I discovered when I went to finish it with stain, that the wood fibers are so dense that the stain would not penetrate. When I rubbed it on, it would rub right back off without coloring the wood. I finally used a semi-transparent paint/stain to achieve the desired color. All in all, it finally turned out ok. In retrospect, there are several things that I would have done differently. Pardon all the stuff that has accumulated on it. I didn’t want to take all of that off in order to take the pics!!

Great looking cabinet. The finish looks great also.

-- You will never build it unless you try. The second one always turns out better.

I like it,especially the medallions on the doors and it’s nice to see somethings decorated. I may have to use the idea when we start furnishing our dining room ;).

BTW, I see you were in the middle of changing the battery in your smoke detector when you took the pictures…...I hope :-)

Thanks for the compliments Richard and Wilson. Wilson – LOL I actually had taken that smoke detector down. It is so sensitive that every time that my wife cooks it goes off. Drives us crazy. We have several other around, so not to worry.
