I made this Owl Bandsaw box and put it in my booth saturday at the vendors mall. I did the owl because for some reason women are in love with the owl patterns right now. It has a few flaws and I already have some upgrades in mind for the next one (mainly something on the feet to pull them out with instead of a push hole in the back which this one has). It shocked me at how much people liked it. I put it in the booth saturday morning and by last night I already have three orders for one. This one is made out of Maple with Walnut trim pieces. Two orders are for one just like this and one is for one that is painted and distressed so it will probably be made out of pine since it will be painted. I hate wasting good wood with paint but I will build what the customer wants. It just amazed me that something this simple would sell so well.

Terrific little box. I’m rather fond of owls too but have been my entire life.

Thanks SSMDad. I don’t have a problem with owls, it just seems to be the big thing right now. All birds seem to be big right now but owls are definitely the biggest. I also wish I could come up with some design for another drawer between the eyes and the feet. There is a lot of solid wood left there.

Hey good time to make my first post …. I love the box (secret owl lover shhhhhh dont tell the wife) so i decided to see what what i could come up with to solve the open space problem … i hit sketch up and this is what i came up with (its just a simple form nothing precise just a concept) http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=fc1054e0e662bc392c25a849d86730d2&prevstart=0
i just couldnt think of any type of drawer pulls for the feet or wings …. maybe talons on the feet?

Thanks gonecrazy. I think I know what I’m going to do for pulls on the feet and thanks for your ideal on the wings. I think I’m going to use it with some minor changes. Keep checking cause I hope to build and post an updated one by this weekend. By the way welcome to lumber jocks and I’m honored to have your first post on one of my projects. I haven’t really figured scetchup out yet so I’m still working off of trial and error haha

clieb91, thanks. I have several upgrades that I am going to try and homefully the final version will have more drawers, some pulls on the feet, and a little more walnut to darken it up a bit.
Tony, thanks. I’m honored to have you coment on one of my projects. Your work is absolutely amazing.
Have your say...
