Here are a few pics of the top bar hive in action. They started out with a 3 lb. box of bees (approx. 6000 bees) in May. It’s estimated to have 40,000 now. The comb is mostly white ‘cause they’ve been feeding a lot of sugar water this first year but the honey is really good. Glad to see my first hive doing so well. They’ve been doing good even with 100+ deg. temps. The real test will be how well they winter here in NJ.

looks really good – and thanks for the update. I was wondering – do you need to cut the comb away from the glass window when you lift up the bar? like, how do you get it out?

Nice looking hive. Looks like it’s very productive.

Aaron, you use a tool ‘kinda looks like a long handled thin bladed putty knife and run it down the sides to free up the comb. Then you just lift out the top bars and the large triangular comb attached to it.
