Hi there, here is a paper towel dispenser I turned on the lathe that I made for my wife out of some walnut mill offcuts. It was finished with a rubbing oil and works quite well. I turned it in two pieces then I countersunk the stem into the base and glued it. I also made a larger one out of oak for toilet paper rolls which holds six. I finished the bottom of them with a 1/16 gasket material from automotive.

I like it, I’ve been meaning to make one of these for a while, and I’m not sure why i haven’t. Anyway, great job, and keep on turnin’

Nice turning project. Walnut is such a gorgeous wood and you continue to use offcuts which is a wonderful re-use of material that would otherwise either go in the dumpster or in the fireplace.
Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful wood. It is always good to see someone’s “scrap” become something useful.

Great use of a nice piece of walnut. I wish it was freely available down under. Welcome to LJ’s

Looks great. I made one from oak years ago (simple dowel, circle base, screw on top w/ threaded insert). Lasted for years.
Did you do anything to weight the base? I always wish I had…

No I didn’t weigh it but I can always plug it full of lead. Next time I melt some lead I think I’ll pour in a lb or 2.
