My four-year-old boy painted tiles with pictures of his mother and I for mothers’ and fathers’ days. For my wife’s birthday, I made a couple of simple frames to hold the tiles so they could be used as coasters. One is poplar, the other pine. My little boy painted the blue one (he’s a whiz with a can of Krylon), and I finished the other with General Finishes shaker maple stain and amber shellac. Small project, but significant—my first attempt at mitered corners, and not the huge failure I thought it would be.
By the way . . . the picture on the tile is me. My little boy was generous with the hair.
