In the past few years, I have built a few bird houses to encourage the wild life, and decrease the mosquitoes. Here are a few of my creations.

Abandoned old school house birdhouse – on top of a fence support

Castle birdhouse – has attracted the giant flycatchers for two years now.

Pagoda birdhouse – my neighbour was oriental, so to please her

Ukranian orthodox church birdhouse – my wife is of Ukranian descent, so this was for her

5 houses in one with stained glass sections that the light comes through.

Nice work, especially the Ukr Orthodox church. My great grandparents arrived here in Canada in 1899 and I was steeped in the Orthodox church and its traditions.

Thanks, Roman.

Here is Mama Great Crested Flycatcher checking out the castle. She and her partner worked diligently to raise a couple of fledglings. An interesting note, is that the flycatcher likes to have a snake skin in the nest. If they can’t find a skin, they often will substitute a piece of plastic which resembles the snake skin … I guess to scare away preditors.

female flycatcher found her palace 2

Here is a shot of a pair of baby Flycatchers who were born and raised here in the castle.
