Made these for two of my friends who just had and are about to have their first kids. The plan was taken from “The Woodworker’s Project Book” but tweaked a bit for the wood I had on hand.
Glue two 5.5”x11”x.75” pine boards together
Cut out cavity with scroll saw
Drill out slot on drill press with 1/4” forstner bit
Drill out hole for coin cover, then bore all the way through with smaller bit (I used 1.5” and 1”)
Cut out piggy profile on the scroll
Glue 1/4” thick board to both sides of pine pig
Trim off excess 1/4” on the scroll saw, then use flush router template bit to make it seamless
Round off edges, then sand…sand…sand…
I finished it with dark walnut danish oil, and depending on how it looks when it dries, I may hit it with some spray poly in a couple days.
