Apparently every woodworker has to make a cutting board & a mallet. About 4 or 5 days ago, I made a cutting board. I have now made both (have not posted the mallet yet).
The day I posted the cutting board, A fellow LJ member said that I have not earned my merit badge because it was not an end grain cutting board. He was right. The end grain cutting board has made me a little nervous, so I avoided it until this statement. I made it a goal to officially earn my end grain cutting board merit badge.
The wood is Oak, Hickory & Dark Walnut. I posted a picture of the wood prior to making my cutting board. I also posted pictures of the cutting board prior to me finishing it with butcher block oil.
I dedicate this board to gfadvm. thank you for pushing me.

Wow, David, I haven’t seen that Badge in awhile! I used to be a Merit Badge Counselor for woodwork- in fact for almost all the trade MBs. Good times! “Tinman should have gotten the Metalworking MB… =)
