It’s taken a while, but I’ve finally finished my latest attempt to make an elegant box, including some new challenges.

As usual, it was better in my head than it turned out, but, that said, I actually quite like it.

I blogged the entire construction here – although I don’t think you’ll learn very much about woodworking there.

I’m always jealous when I see “Here are the pieces before I glue it together” pictures, so I’ve included one of mine. There was even a discussion going on about whether people even made some of the things they’d posted. As if I’d have stolen these pictures!

Anyway – Single piece of Ash and Jatoba (probably), hot linseed oil finish.

As always – throw your best critiques and comments my way.

Nice feel to this box with the lines you chose. I also love the heartwood/sapwood combination and how you wrapped it around the box.

Nice box. I have not seen one designed like this before. I bet you that someone will come along pick up the lid turn it 180 deg and put it back on. That would drive me crazy. LOL Inside I would be yelling “You idiot, the grain matches.” Out loud I would softly say “No that’s the wrong way. Do you see how all the little lines match up perfectly when you put it the right way.”

Nice lines on this box! The taper on the sides/legs looks nice as well.

LOL, I’m with Rex.
