Just another box but one I really like. The top is a piece of figured maple from a coffee table I found in a dumpster which was painted when I found it. Imagine my surprise when I ran it through the drum sander! The front is Ipe/Brazilian Walnut flooring, and the ends are red oak flooring. Finish is wiped on Spar. Hang in there guys and girls. I have almost all my old projects posted!

Nice looking box! Is there a reason for using spar? Do the boxes encounter a lot of moisture?

Thanks for posting,

Cal – I used to use BLO then poly but I found the Spar “pops” the grain like BLO and eliminates one step in the finishing process. I think Spar is actually a poly with oil [BLO?] added but I could be wrong. Plus I use Spar on all of my chairs so I have always got fresh Spar handy. Thanks for looking.

A pretty slick box you made there. Amazing what you can find discarded sometimes.

Some people have all the luck, hey Doc? LOL :D I’m always on the lookout for throw away furniture, shipping crates or anything made of wood . . . figured maple, no less! Guess I’d keep looking, but in the meantime paying big bucks for such pretty wood.

Very well done, the joints look great and the color is very good.
