Another older project that I’m just posting. I was really proud of this one but when I showed it to my wife, she said the lid is creepy. She keeps it on a high shelf where she cant see the lid. Any of you see anything “creepy” here? Box is a mish mash of scraps: oak,Jatoba, pine, doug fir, etc. Finished with Spar.Top is mahogany over oak textured with a router bit in my drillpress.

Creepy? Different but not creepy. Good use of scraps.

Looks like good Swiss cheese. Nothing creepy about Swiss cheese. Nice job.

It looks pretty wild – as in wildly beautiful. I like it.

Hey, from my personal experience, if SWMBO says that it is creepy, then it IS creepy regardless of what the rest of think. :)

I have an overwhelming urge to place marbles in the holes. Overwhelming urges tend to be creepy, so your Wife might be onto something;)

Not creepy for me either. I second Al about putting marbles in the holes ;)

Very creative. I like it.
The random size and layout of the pattern is what makes it unique. If you had lined them up and made them all the same size, then you might as well just go ahead and glue the marbles in the holes.

i like it..i dont see creepy at all…but it is different…what kind of recreational stuff were you into that day…lol..you didnt accidentally poke yourself with a horse shot did ya…lol….i think some different colored marbles would really add to it…i like the sides with the different woods…keep at it doc…if it were me…i would move the box down into plain view every now and then , just to play with her mind…and tell her you didnt move it…i would just say…i dont know honey…but its kinda creepy huh…lol…....

I will agree with your wife a bit, it is a little unsettling. You did a great job on the box, the top is just not what I would have done.

Ditto on the marble idea. Pehaps a collection of vintage ‘boulders’, steelies, cat eye’s, etc will sparkle it up enough that she looses that ‘creepy’ impression. Me? I think it looks out-freakin’-standing! I am curious as to where the hole idea came from?
