Natural Cherry Desk

Here’s a cherry desk I made for a friend’s daughter a couple of years ago. Everything but the legs were made out of cherry plywood. Although it wasn’t planned, the lighter finish really brought out the figure in the cherry veneer. The legs were made from 8/4 Brazillian cherry, with a slight taper.

Nice looking desk, like you said the finish really brought out the figure nicely.

Never would have thought that was cherry veneered ply.

Is that Brazilian cherry stained, or is that it’s natural color?

Looks great!

Thanks everyone for the comments.
It was actually some cherry ply that was left over from a cabinet project I did a few months earlier. And this was a good way to use it up.
My friend wanted something very simple in design and wouldn’t require a lot of time to build.
The color of the Braziallian cherry is very close to it’s natural color. I did use a very light stain just to “speed up” the natural aging process.

Very nice desk. Cherry is my favorite wood to work with and you did well here. The joinery looks tight and I really like the contrast between the cherry and the jatoba.

These are the same woods in which I did my master bedroom. I used cherry for the base, wainscoting and crown. The floor was 5” wide bc. I think that combination works very well.

Thanks for sharing.
