Poor Attempt At Andy Box

This was my first attempt at an Andy box and it fought me every step of the way. Wood is mahogany over red oak [should have used maple]. The carving is really crude but I learned a lot [how not to do it]. The dimensions are way off but I had too much time in it to consign it to the wood stove. My buddy Hunter from Tx is trying to teach me to post pics so we posted this and the mafe box as a learning experience for me. Finish is BLO and Renissance wax.

I think it looks cool. I like the contrasting woods. Keep after it. You will keep getting better.

Ps. The pics you posted look good.

Thats a very good looking box I think! I really like the way it turned out, very unique. Keep up the good work, maybe one day I will be brave enough to attempt to make one!

Your first attempt at sculpting did not come out bad, it looks quite nice. Just create your own style and your creativeness will flow easier and the boxes…like anything else…improve with practice.

Actually, the contrast is very interesting….and with a little planning could be remarkable….as a first attempt on something like this there’s realy hope for a second attempt…nope, not perfect….but there’s an intersting possibility here….keep trying.

Thats the thing about this woodworking thing Andy fist box probably didn’t look much different. i really like your design its very artistic. Learn from what you consider mistakes and don’t repeat them the next time. Im not just trying to make you feel better, I know you can turn out a box just as good as Andy if not better. Can’t wait to see your boxes in a year.

I like it, looks very intriguing. Sometimes we don’t get the results we want on the first attempt, but that’s what makes it so much better when we take another run at it. I’m looking forward to seeing how you do it next time.
