A bookshelf that I built for my fiances birthday. It was my first project and was what got me into woodworking. I enjoyed it so much that I am taking on another project and hopefully making a profit from it (Small Bar… I live in a college town).

Nice, but you’ve got some sort of animal infestation going on there. :-)

dub560, not making money yet. That is my goal though as I want to start doing more woodwork so I can do less web development work.

CharlieM1958, They were sniffing around it so I threw their cat bowls up and let them eat on it :P

We actually do have a small cat post in our living room. Possibly could do those as well for income. A lot of people around here do have cats :P It probably wouldn’t be a high demand item. i’d just build a new one for the cats we have here :P

The first real woodworking project is so memorable because it is the moment of inception for your woodworking journey.

Your web development skills are more important than you realize for woodworking. What I am referring to is the design skills that you have.

Athens is also a great community for art. Enjoy the galleries, take notice of the architecture, you will see it is all related. The principles of each discipline still boil down to how you execute balance, proportions, color, and texture to create any given project.

Guess my Design I class will bleed into my work a bit eh? :) I love it here in Athens. Town is full of a bunch of hippies and I couldn’t be happier. The arts, people keeping it green, local foods… what isn’t there to love! :D

Also, a question for anyone well versed in wooden furniture pricing. How much would a bookshelf like this go for without the imperfections and with a decent varnish? I was thinking of making more like this.

$ materials x 2. adjust up or down according to demand. Don’t try to account for time while your learning new techniques. It’s a start.
