I finished too late to enter in the contest. But I made one just the same. It is made of tiger maple. With mitered corners and paduak legs. I routed in two small pieces of inlay I had gotten at Johnson’s Workbench, and put on brass hinges and a brass latch. The middle piece lifts out for storage in the bottom. Its about 8” long by 5” wide x 4 1/2” deep. It has a small sliver of purpleheart on the lid front lip. Had fun and have a lot of orders now from wife and children for more. I painted the inside blue and sprayed it with deft spray felt. Worked out nice. thanks for looking mike

darned deadlines!!!
glad that you still made the box and finished it.
all the elements are wonderful.
That inside piece is beautiful – looks like a sunset with clouds in the sky.

Nice box. I’ve never used spray on felt, how’d it work for you?

The spray on felt works great. I forgot to tell you the finish which was a few coats of danish oil some scrapeing and then a few coats of schellac with steel wooling in between coats. thanks Pat and everyone else. mike

Nice box Mike. But I want to give you a warning these things have been proven to be addictive.

I just hope it passes the “Mans” inspection we do know who I’m talking about, don’t we. The spray on felt is called Don Jer it is a combination of paint and ground up plastic with this tube that looks like a Kalidescope that you put the ground up plastic in after its painted, the tube has 4 or 5 little holes in one end and as you pump it it sprays the stuff all over the paint, and it feels just like felt, you can’t tell the difference. of course their both the same color. Thanks everyone mike

Go get ‘em, Mike. If you have got orders for more from the family, and you pass inspection from the man in the mirror then you done good.

I’m not talking about that ‘man’ I’m talking about the man down under who just love little boxes. Now you know who I mean.

I dunno, Mike…. The man you refer to (I won’t say his name, but it is spelled with the letters D-O-N) has not commented on my last few boxes, so I’ll be really jealous if he comments on yours. lol

Jockmike, there’s something real special about a first box.

There’s an honest simplicity about this one that will stand the test of time. It’s one of those creations you see on the American Antiques Road Show that was made 150 years ago and worth a fortune.

You’ve done well and at the same time, fed my love of small wooden boxes.

PS: Charlie, sorry about not commenting on your beautiful boxes previously, but before commenting on Mikes little beauty, I went to your project page and commented on those I had missed.
