Hi All,

I made this box for my dad this past Father’s Day. It’s made of mahogany with wenge accent strips and mother of pearl inlays. I had the mahogany around from a prior project, and found the wenge in the scrap pile at the woodshop where I take classes. The inspiration was Rob Cosman’s “Wood Hinge Box” video which shows how to make the hinge. I cut all the dovetails by hand and sized all the lumber with a handplane and a shooting board. I’ma guitar repairman by trade, so it’s really fun to make a project that no one is expecting! My dad was “overwhelmed” when he received it. He’s great, so I’m glad. Take care, Geoff

Very nice. And tight joints there. I am afraid I am a looooonnnnngggggg way from hand carving dovetail joints.
