A fellow Chief brought me a picture of a shadowbox he found online and asked me if I could reproduce it, so I said I would give it a shot. The box measures 36 inches wide, 24 inches high, 10 inches deep at the bottom and tapers to 6 inches deep at the top. The box is constructed of red oak hard and plywoods using #20 biscuits and brad nails. The finish was hand rubbed using Minwax Red Mahogany #225 and General Finishes Arm-R-Seal. I used my CNC machine to cut out the stands for the cutlass and scabbard and attached with 3” deck screws from the top so the cutlass hides the screw heads. The flag triangle is also attached with deck screws throught the back of the box because the retirement flag had not come back yet and I wanted it to be removeable. That way the the flag could be easily installed using simple handtools. I also added some 1 1/4 inch trim around the bottom to add some visual interest and installed a 30” piano hinge on the lid for easy access to the items inside (the brass on the cutlass will tarnish over time and need to be polished) Let me know what you think. Thanks, Matt
