When my boss started his job here in Germany the person he replaced left him a bottle of Old English as a joke. Because of the stress of the position she also jokingly put a note on it that said “Because you need it”.

He thought it was funny and kept it for 3 years. Before he left I decided to make a shadow box to hold the bottle so he could proudly display it at his next assignment.

The wood is local German Beech, stained and waxed. It was a great wood to work with for my first “nice” woodworking project. I learned a lot (like putty and stain can cover MANY novice mistakes) and had a great time with this project.

Nice display box. Blocking out the inscription really makes us want to know what it says. lol

It is just his name and work info :) I figured he didn’t want me posting it…

Probably the closest thing ive ever seen to “putting earrings on a pig”. A great shadow box for arguably the worst beer on the planet!

Very nice work, I haven’t seen a bottle of OE in along time.

Welcome to Lumberjocks, and thank you for your service to your country. Can understand why the
bottle remained unopened. Great shadow box for the memories. Thank you for sharing and hope
you continue to have fun in the workshop.
