Tablet / Serving Tray
I made this as one of the last practical exams for School. It consisted of making 2 veneer patterns as veneering work, and through tenons for the joints. Although this little tray ca 20 in x 12 in may seem pretty straight forward, the small cross section of the tenons and the soft Alder make it a bit of a challenge, especially since we had only about 10 hours to finish it. We had to turn it in with one coat of oil on the veneer work, which is tricky because with oil as a finish, one sees all the little marks or scratches, so a chunk of carpet is helpful when working with softer woods, as well as a hand broom in reach to sweep shavings and stuff away from the bench.
Well I hope you all like it, I think it looks cool!

We’re always amazed by your joinery and design. The process of creating fine woodworkers in Germany is just excellent and you will be a great credit to your profession….and it is a profession, not a vocation….excellence that you show us tells us that you are a professional. And don’t let anybody tell you different. The projects that you have shown us over the years here have been fulfilled with a high level of exccellence and….perfection. One can’t ask for more.

Great work as always Nicholas. The through-tenons are a very nice touch.

A piece that I think, only truly gets appreciated by someone that knows what went into making it! Beautiful work!
