Came across this piece of curly cherry by chance and pondered for a long while on what to do with it. I wanted to make sure that whatever it was we would be able to enjoy the beautiful figuring and grain pattern. In the end we decided to upgrade our fireplace mantel with the wood. I resawed and bookended the piece and adorned our fireplace mantel with the finiished product. I used a wood dye to pop the grain and then finished with three coats of Arm R Seal with steel wool rubbing between coats.

Nice touch. Really adds some nice interest to mantle. Thanks for sharing.

Nicely done. I just finished one myself about a week ago. Very different set of challenges versus a furniture build.
