This still did not come out right. I’ve been piddling with it for a long time, shelving it & waiting to find the right root stand, but i am still not happy. The root doesn’t match; i probably should have stained it to match…oh, well, it is kindof fun anyways. The cherry globe is a branch hole -whatever they are called -somebody name it…

Came out perfect from my perspective. A little contrast in this instance is just what I think you needed. Just like the flowers on a green cucumber vine are yellow, or the leaves on a brown tree are green. It looks absolutely like it belongs together. Very nice conversation piece.

That hand is fantastic. Branch hole?
Gift of light is a great name. Is the hand one piece with the globe?
Sounds like you’re being hard on yourself, but hey have a blast:)

I think WoodenFrog named it nicely. Great project!

Very well done. I don’t carve much but I do draw and hands are always a challenge for me. This one is wonderful.
What ever you choose to call it, I like it a lot.
Thanks Christine

I know what you mean as it doesn’t seem to “flow”, in the first pic it doesn’t look right however in the second it looks pretty good. I suppose it is all in the angle at which you look.
But I love your hand, you did a great job on it.
You never know you might accidentally come across something later on that in your eyes will be just right. -
-Then you just have to do is start all over again!!!! :-)
Great work keep it up.

I agree the proportions are off, your carving of the hand is incredible and the figure on the bowl is stunning, but the mass of roots overtake them both. Maybe a little less on the roots, and like was suggested for contrast.. maybe a darker stain so the red of the cherry isn’t lost in the spotted roots. But then the roots are cool in themselves. Regardless, it is a great piece.
