These projects represent a 4 month span right before I graduated College.
The first is a blanket chest made for Sis/Bro. in law. It is made from scraps (like most my projects) since I could not afford wood. It is actually MDF panels with a maple skin. The dark accent wood is cherry about 1/8” thick stained. The accent pieces are glued and pin-nailed. My intention was to have the accent pieces on the top and back, but I didn’t have enough. When I was staining the top I wanted to have the contrast but accidentally got some stain on the maple so the whole lid was stained-ended up looking better! I had been working on the cherry pieces previously but threw the box together in less than a day ( I was a bit rushed for time).
The second was my experiment in miters since I was not very confident with them at the time- rightly so, the chop saw I was using at the shop was horribly inaccurate. It is an alder box with a plexi-glass lid. It slides open and is a shadow box to hold our shells collected on various beaches.
The vase and desk organizer were made for the in-laws for Christmas. The walnut picture frames were made for my wife’s Birthday, I was very happy with the way they turned out.
The last project was kind of on a whim for an art class. The drawer front was going to be thrown out because of a minor flaw, so I took it and mounted my “mini-tree.” Wrapping that thing in yarn was a lot harder than I thought it would be!

Great looking gifts, I love the vase and that mini tree would be a good place to store rings, earrings and bracelets!
