A couple years ago I made this toy box for friends. There is a seat, a table and some levers so the kids can run the train.

Grandpaj,
The entire project was done on the fly so no plans exist, I think the box was 36L X 18W x 24H not counting the barrel top. The cab was about 22 sq by 48 high. The levers are spring loaded so the always return to home. I was lucky that the parents agreed to do all the painting! The first 2 two weeks he had breakfast, lunch and dinner sitting at the controls :) and I was real glad I didn’t have to hear the bell or his little whistle ;) I hope that helps, let me know if you need anything else and I hope to see yours here.

One last thing, I didn’t put any lid stays on this but should have….. no squished fingers reported after 2 years but I will feel bad if it happens.
