My wife and I wanted to make a “ripoff” of a Pottery Barn Kids table. I started with a 2’x2’ piece of 1/2” MDF for the top. I used a compass to make segments in the top. Then my wife traced a cereal bowl to get the right radius for the petals.

I made legs by laminating pieces of 3/4” MDF scraps from previous projects. The legs were trimmed to square, then tapered on the table saw, then mortised on the drill press. Then I (unfortunately) made a few different lengths of apron pieces with tenons until I found the right size. Everything was tapered at 5 degrees to make the legs flare out. After some glue-up, painting, and sealing, it’s finally all done!

LJ’s are Pottery Barns worst nightmare. Every time I’m dragged in to see a new something that my wife likes I just know it would be something i could build on the weekend.

This is a great looking table. I like using MDF for children play furniture.

At first glance I thought “Why’d he glue the dog to the wall”.

Have your say...
