A couple of months ago Ellen 35 & I posted a “laptop computer desk” which we made from a modified “shaker laptop desk” plan we’d found. At a recent craft fair, a customer said that “the desk would be perfect if it was half that size”. She would use it in her business as a “cash register” for her ipad which was set up to take credit cards.
So Ellen & I joined forces and came up with this model which has the same slanted top (attached with a piano hinge) sized to fit an ipad but placed the pull-out drawer in front with dividers to hold money, etc. In this case we used jatoba and oak woods and finished the project with 3 coats of water-based poly.
After showing this first effort to the customer, she ordered another! And I’m sure we’ll be making one for ourselves very soon!
Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

Nicely done Lorna (and Ellen). It is stylish and functional all in one. The jatoba and oak (white I believe) compliment each other well. I like that there are no mechanical drawer runners. Very nice.

As a cash register you may want to eventually add a lock that secures both the piano hinged lid and the drawer. And if there was a holder for the ipad inside, then you could lock the ipad inside and then the handle suddenly becomes a carrying handle for the whole kaboodle.

Nice “ipad” desk. Could be used for so much more.
