This flower box was produced with my shop made pin router.

The process is quite simple starting with the making of the template followed by the routing of the shape and finishing. I applied the same multiple layer system I used in my heart box and oval box projects. When I was planning out the project, I found the following link very useful.

Hi Ed, That is really cool. I’ll have to learn to do pin routing. There is no end to the designs you can transfer that way! Thanks for showing us another neat project!!

To take it to the next level, I would hide the pivot. I have seen boxes with swivelling lids secured by rare-earth magnets – one pair for the pivot and a smaller pair for the lock. They are not visible from the outside.

Thanks Guys.
FlairWoodworks,
That is a very good suggestion. I thought of it a bit too late. The drilling of the holes for the dowels or pegs should have been done before gluing the pieces together so that alignment would be less problematic. When I make the next odd-shaped box I will know better. Thanks for the suggestion.
