I thought that I would start out simple by making a picture frame.

This one I made years ago.

It’s maple with many coats of tung oil. It’s made to fit a 5×8 photo.

nice looking frames. My first attempts (actually… ALL my attempts) at mitred picture frames have ended up in the bin, just couldn’t get the bloody things square.

Good first try – the miters look tight.

Nice job! What did you use on the back to make the space for the glass and backing – a router? And how did you do the miters – table saw, miter box?

Great looking frame, don’t forget to sign and date the back you so you can look back some day.

Good looking frame.

Glad to hear you think it’s a simple job.

Many people consider this to be a tricky project!
