The coffee scoop experiment

After seeing bearpie’s beautiful scoops, I thought I would try my hand at it so….

This is my sad attempt at carving a coffee scoop. A friend had made some boat seats recently modeled after an old tractor seat, he told me he shaped them with an angle grinder. So i tried it. I have to say, it was alot of fun!

I carved the profile with a flap wheel on an angle grinder, and hollowed with brace and bit , and chisel.
The wood is oak (from a pallet ..notice the nail holes).
It holds 3 tablespoons, simply by chance.
Finished with bees wax and mineral oil.

you call that sad again & i bet i can round up a posse of folks on here to hunt you down and whip you!!
That is a very fine coffee scoop! -What… did you just work on it too long -step away for a minute and admire it the way someone else does, without being overly, unnecessarily critical!!
-getchu some more grinder attachments, like the chain cutter & layered 40, & 80 grit sanding discs -then it will not take so long. Use the flapwheel after. That has an awesome shape and appeal, you just looked at it too hard!

Now don’t you feel a bit proud when you scoop your coffee grounds in the mornings? I kept my first one for my own use although it is quite primitive over my later ones, I treasure it the most because of the satisfaction and joy I got in making it! I have made close to 40 to 50 now and I still enjoy making them. You did good with your first and will continue to improve if you keep making more. (they make nice gifts for coffee drinkers!)

In my blunt, harsh, and in-your-face opinion…..I love it! Why is it sad?? Because it’s not perfect? It’s more than perfect, because that shape will never be duplicated again, ever. It is as unique as apple pie. Wait, no, that didn’t sound right…...It’s as cool as the other sid of the pillow!

Please send me a coffee scoop as I am a coffee lover. I’ll be expecting it soon. Thanks.
