My wife just became a teacher so I decided to make a pencil holder for her desk. I actually am not finished with this project. I still have to drill the holes for the pencils and to put on the finish, which is where I could use some advice. I was hoping for some input. I wanted to use red, green, and brown. What kind of paint and finish should I use. I have very little knowledge of finish work.

Dan’s recommendation of the finish sounds good to me – I like the apple, looks good enough to take a bite out of, if only it was red :-)).

Interesting. An apple needs a polished look. I think I would put it on the lathe , sand it & give it a burnished wax finish.
